Resource Recovery Centres & Transfer Stations

Resource Recovery Centres
A Resource Recovery Centre (RRC) is a facility where unwanted items and materials are sorted, reused, repurposed, or recycled instead of being sent straight to landfill.
Think of it as a smart recycling hub:
You can drop off things like e-waste, batteries, furniture, household goods, and hard-to-recycle materials like polystyrene or soft plastics.
Staff and volunteers help identify what can be saved, sold, repaired or responsibly recycled.
It supports the circular economy, reduces waste, and often creates local jobs and community benefits.

Transfer Stations
TCDC operates seven Refuse and Recycling Transfer Stations across the Coromandel Peninsula – in Thames, Coromandel Town, Matarangi, Whitianga, Tairua, Pāuanui and Whangamatā.
These sites are open daily (with extended hours over summer) and accept a wide range of household waste and recycling, including general rubbish, clean recycling, batteries, soft plastics, green waste, hazardous materials (like paint and oil), whiteware, and tyres. Some sites also offer after-hours drop-off for rubbish and recycling.
They’re not just for landfill – they’re a key part of managing waste responsibly and supporting recycling and recovery in our communities.
